Kristi Dunlap, MS-CMHC Candidate, Counseling Intern
Life can feel overwhelming and lackluster when you’re carrying a lot on your shoulders, constantly questioning yourself, and caught between others’ expectations and your own goals. You long to feel safe, seen, and supported—free to be yourself. My clients seek relief from the experiences, patterns, and pressures that weigh them down and want to reconnect with their true selves, feel empowered, and move forward into a life they love living.
My Experience
I graduated summa cum laude from Walden University with a BS in Psychology and am on track to complete my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Trauma and Crisis Counseling in February 2026.
Before entering the counseling field, I spent seven years as an existential wellness coach, helping women move through major life transitions with holistic practices, environmental interventions, and spiritual guidance. I also survived 25 years in the corporate world, where I learned to weather high-stress environments, burnout, imposter syndrome, and toxic work cultures. My own experiences with trauma, parenting, and mental health challenges deepen my ability to connect with and support others on their healing journeys.
In addition, I am a certified Usui Reiki II energy practitioner, an essential oils wellness advocate, and co-author of Life Design for Dreamers + Doers with Feng Shui Expert Justine Hernandez.
My Approach
I believe healing is a deeply personal process, and I strive to create an intentional space free of judgment and full of empathy. As a late-diagnosed AuDHD clinician, I honor neurodivergence as evolved brilliance, not brokenness. I affirm our diversity as natural and valid expressions of humanity, meeting you where you are—through shifting moods, body cycles, energy levels, and life’s seasons. Potential over pathology.
My approach is grounded in humanistic, existential, and feminist theories, valuing the interconnectedness of mind, body, spirit, and environment. I integrate collaborative, flexible modalities attuned to your needs and cognitive style. In therapy, we may use Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), narrative practices, and sensory or somatic interventions to support trauma recovery, emotional regulation, identity development, and holistic wellness. I also draw from environmental psychology, exploring how your surroundings and routines can become intentional supports for healing, balance, and change.
Am I a good fit for you?
I provide counseling services in person and online to emerging adults (18-24) and adults (25+). To connect with me, call (757) 302-8362 or email Letyourlightshine345@gmail.com to set up an initial appointment.
I am passionate about helping my clients cultivate resilience, grit, and well-being in every aspect of life. Together, we’ll explore what weighs you down so you can rise by honoring yourself and becoming re-enchanted with life.
You deserve a life beyond surviving—one where you are thriving.
