We’ve assembled some of the most frequently asked questions. These questions have been compiled to ensure the answers will help you make informed decisions.
How much do counseling sessions cost?
In-office counseling sessions are 50-55 minutes in length and cost an average between $100 – $150 per session. Acceptable forms of payment include check, cash, credit/debit cards. I can also accept your HSA or FSA cards. There is a $5 discount for those who choose to pay with cash (please bring correct change).
Online/video counseling sessions are 50 minutes and also cost $150 per session. These sessions must be paid for with a card at the beginning of the session.
I offer longer sessions when appropriate and based on availability.
If you have questions about my fees, please contact me at 757-302-8362 or
through my contact form.
When are you available for sessions?
I am currently in the office on Mondays through Fridays and Saturdays by appointment only.
Please keep in mind that the later appointments tend to book quickly and may need to be scheduled in advance. Feel free to contact me with any questions about my office hours and availability.
Do you take my insurance?
I do accept insurance. If you would like to access your “out of network” benefits, I can provide you with a Statement for Reimbursement form (also called a Superbill) for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. I have had many clients receive at least partial reimbursement for the cost of the sessions this way. A word of warning though: In order to do this, I am required by insurance companies to give you a “Diagnosis Code” which will become part of your permanent medical record.
Please contact your insurance provider to make sure your policy includes out of network mental health providers and counseling services.
How do I set up an appointment?
There are several ways to schedule an appointment, so you can choose the option that’s easiest for you.
You can send me message through my contact form or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
You can call me at 757-302-8362. I do my best to answer phone calls, but if you get my voicemail that means I’m either in session or simply away from the phone. Please feel free to leave a message on my confidential voicemail, and I will return your call as soon as possible.
If you are a current client, you can make an appointment through my secure online portal.
What if I need to move or cancel my appointment?
I understand that things come up, so you can cancel or reschedule your appointment with at least 48 hours notice. If it’s less than 48 hours notice, you will be charged for the appointment.
Do our talks remain confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is essential to the counseling relationship, allowing you a safe place to work through personal issues. Your right to confidentiality will be carefully maintained and will not be disclosed without your written permission, except in cases of possible harm to yourself or others (especially children or the elderly) or a criminal court subpoena.
My spouse and I worked with you as a couple. Do you still work with couples? Will you see us again?
While I have shifted my focus to work with women, I will gladly continue to work with couples with whom I have an existing relationship. For new clients interested in couples counseling, I am happy to refer you to some wonderful couples therapists who I know and trust.
Shouldn’t I be able to handle this by myself? Does seeing a therapist mean I’m weak or flawed?
Therapy has gotten a bad rap over the years. In a society that tells us we need to “have it all” while appearing to “have it all together”, asking for help can be difficult. I urge my clients to view therapy as a healthy way to invest in themselves and their relationships, just as one might invest into a 401k or a college education to be better equipped for the future. Therapy is no different. It is a choice to make a proactive change in order to better yourself, your life and your relationships. Therapy is an investment in yourself that allows you to heal from past wounds, find freedom in areas of struggle, grow in confidence and thrive in your life and relationships.
If you have any questions, just ask! I sincerely look forward to hearing from you!
